Liposuction under local anesthesia, with or without a laser, never causes damage to internal organs if performed by an experienced surgeon. The laser itself cannot damage the liver or any of the internal organs. Common risks and side effects of lipo laser include pain or numbness in the treatment area, discomfort, and loose or discolored skin. Some people experience burning under the skin after the session.
If this lasts longer than a few days, it could be a sign of fluid buildup and your doctor can treat it. The laser can cause collagen to contract too much, producing a wrinkled appearance and also cause third-degree burns. The problem isn't just that lipo laser has the potential to cause complications. The problem is that, in untrained hands, the doctor can treat the patient with lipo laser instead of the proper procedure.
Why? Because they only have a lipo laser machine and not the experience to do the right procedure.
Laser liposuction
and CoolSculpting are two cosmetic procedures that can help remove fat from under the skin. I recently attended a seminar given by one of the manufacturers of laser liposuction because I wanted to evaluate this technology and determine if it could be useful for my patients. Laser liposuction and CoolSculpting are fat reduction procedures that have minimal downtime and a quick recovery period. The problem is that many doctors who use lipo laser in their office may be the least trained in liposuction techniques. Rather, the speaker recommended the use of laser liposuction for superficial liposuction, very close to the lower surface of the skin. While recovery time from laser liposuction is faster than for other types of procedures, most doctors will continue to recommend that the person rest and avoid activities that may strain the area. The first (top and bottom) underwent laser liposuction of the inner thigh, producing a burn that blistered in a few days.
However, you should be aware of the risks of any procedure you are considering and there are some special risks of laser liposuction. Compared to surgical liposuction and other ultrasound or laser techniques, i-Lipo is much more affordable with similar results. When it comes to overall effectiveness, both laser liposuction and CoolSculpting can provide similar results. I had the misconception that they claimed that laser liposuction, by heating deeper tissue, would cause tissue contraction and hardening.
My point is not that these doctors did the procedure incorrectly, but that these results are expected from superficial liposuction combined with a laser.
